Gorst, Filler and Ruiz Chase Second Crowns as US Open Reaches Final Eight
Yapp, Biado and Van Boening all crash out on a dramatic Day Four in Frisco.
The 2026 US Open cut to its final eight on a dramatic Day Four in Frisco — and the biggest names fell hardest.

Defending champion Aloysius Yapp, reigning World Champion Carlo Biado and five-time winner Shane Van Boening all crashed out, leaving three former champions hunting a second crown: Fedor Gorst, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and Joshua Filler.
Gorst ends Van Boening's run again
Fedor Gorst repeated his 2024 final triumph over Van Boening, winning their Last-32 clash 10-7 to end the American's pursuit of a record sixth US Open title — despite battling illness all day.
"The last two times we've played here I've managed to get the better of him," said Gorst. "I'm back in the quarterfinals for a fourth straight year and hungry to go all the way again."
Champions' exit
Yapp's bid for a third consecutive major fell to Spain's David Alcaide, while Biado was stopped by six-time World Pool Masters champion Ralf Souquet.
"I've felt the pressure of being defending champion," admitted the World No.1. "Now it's time to reset, get back to practising and get my confidence back."
Alcaide backed up the biggest win of his week by beating Chang Yu Lung and Jayson Shaw to reach the quarterfinals.
Ruiz, Filler survive
Sanchez Ruiz fought through Sun Yi Hsuan, Petri Makkonen and Alexander Kazakis to stay in the hunt for a second US Open crown, while two-time UK Open champion Filler edged Stephen Holem, Albert Januarta and Chris Melling.
"It's been seven years since I last won it," said Filler. "It feels like it's about time I won it again."
Four quarterfinals on Saturday decide who reaches Sunday's final, opening a new chapter in the 49-year history of the US Open.
