Qatar World Cup 10-Ball Results: Seven Filipinos Into Last 16

Carlo Biado beat third seed Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 11-6 and Dương Quốc Hoàng ousted 11th seed Robbie Capito as seven Filipinos filled nearly half of the last-16 field in Doha.

The last 16 of the Qatar World Cup 10-Ball is set after a dramatic Tuesday night session in Doha — and nearly half of it is Filipino.

Carlo Biado produced the result of the round by beating third seed Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 11-6, while Dương Quốc Hoàng ended 11th seed Robbie Capito's run 11-6 to fly the Vietnamese flag into Wednesday's knockout stages. When the dust settled, seven of the 16 survivors were Filipino: Biado, world 10-ball champion Jonas Magpantay, Rocky Tullao, Miguel Salvilla, Jerico Bonus, Jundel Mazon and Albert James Manas.

Filipinos close in on the title

Seven of the 16 survivors fly the Philippine flag — and that tally would have been eight had Jefrey Roda, fresh off his Qatar Open triumph, not fallen 11-7 to Poland's Daniel Macioł. The round's glamour tie went Biado's way, the second seed pulling away from Sanchez Ruiz in the latter stages of an 11-6 win that removes one of the event's biggest names.

The reward is a bracket tilted sharply toward Manila: two of Wednesday's last-16 ties are all-Filipino affairs — Salvilla against Bonus, and Mazon against Manas — guaranteeing at least two Filipinos in the quarter-finals. Magpantay, meanwhile, drew the toughest possible assignment in defending WPA 10-ball world champion Wojciech Szewczyk, who cruised past fellow Pole Szymon Kural 11-4.

Dương Quốc Hoàng topples Capito

Vietnam's Dương Quốc Hoàng produced one of the night's cleanest wins, beating 11th seed Robbie Capito 11-6 to reach the last 16. The Vietnamese star controlled the match from early on and closed it out with room to spare, setting up a Wednesday meeting with Macioł — himself a surprise winner over Roda.

Hill-hill drama

Four ties went all the way. Tullao survived a thriller against Austria's Mario He 11-10, Morra edged Walter Laikre by the same score, and Salvilla held off Elliott Sanderson 11-10. In an all-Polish battle, Konrad Juszczyszyn beat Dominik Jastrząb on the deciding rack.

Seeds fall, favourites cruise

Bonus backed up a strong last-64 win over Marcin Stachowiak by beating 15th seed Wiktor Zielinski 11-9 — a quick comedown for the Pole, who had knocked out Kledio Kaçi earlier the same day. Along with Sanchez Ruiz, Capito and Roda, four ranked players departed in the round.

At the other end, the top names were untroubled. Fourth seed Fedor Gorst conceded a single rack in routing Mahmoud Charif 11-1 — ending a giant-killing run that began with Charif's win over 18th seed Naoyuki Oi in the last 64. Fifth seed Joshua Filler beat Olivér Szolnoki 11-8, and Albert James Manas ended Mustafa Alnar's run 11-5 after Alnar's hill-hill heroics against Bernie Regalario in the last 64.

The last-16 draw

All eight ties are scheduled for 11:00 Wednesday in Doha (08:00 UTC).
