# Qatar World Cup 10-Ball: Last-64 Field Set, Knockout Begins Tuesday

*Shaw, Hohmann and Pecelj all fell within one win of the knockout draw as Monday's losers' qualification filled the last 32 places in Doha.*

The Qatar World Cup 10-Ball has its knockout field. Monday's 32 losers' qualification matches at the Ezdan Palace Hotel filled the last places in the last 64 — and closed a brutal day for the sport's decorated names, with Jayson Shaw, Thorsten Hohmann and Aleksa Pecelj all beaten within one win of the single-elimination draw.

## Dakkak ends Shaw's week

Wisam Dakkak produced the result of the night. The Syrian qualifier, who had kept his own tournament alive earlier in the day with a 9-6 losers'-round win over Ibrahim Al Qaed, beat Shaw 9-7 to send the Scot home at one win and two losses. Shaw had already been pushed to the brink on the winners' side by Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Baabad — a 7-9 defeat in the afternoon — and could not complete the escape.

The evening session claimed two more stars. Spain's Juan Carlos Expósito routed Aleksa Pecelj 9-2, days after the Serb sealed a Mosconi Cup debut with Team Europe in Manila, and Taiwan's Hsu Jui An ended two-time world champion Thorsten Hohmann's week 9-6. Around them went Sanjin Pehlivanović — 5-9 to Filipino qualifier Rocky Tullao — and Maximilian Lechner, edged 8-9 in a hill-hill decider by Poland's Dominik Regieli. Raymund Faraon, the man who ended Albin Ouschan's tournament, followed him out 6-9 to Jefrey Roda.

## The seeded survivors took the long road

The big names who needed two wins on Monday mostly got them — and emphatically. Joshua Filler dropped three racks across two elimination matches (9-1 over Mohammed Albalushi, then 9-2 over Jan Van Lierop), world No. 2 Carlo Biado won an all-Filipino decider 9-6 over Mark Estiola, Niels Feijen raced past Jordan's Zein Eddin 9-1, Alex Pagulayan beat the Emirates' Abdulla Juma 9-1 and Wojciech Szewczyk ended Mi Le's run 9-5.

David Alcaide (9-7 over Lazar Kostic), Naoyuki Oi (9-5 over Hayder Abdulsattar), Wiktor Zielinski (9-4 over Habib El Hussein), Bernie Regalario (9-3 over Amr Rashad Abdeltouab) and Roda also came through, while Jundel Mazon produced the round's only whitewash, 9-0 over India's Shahbaaz Adil Khan. Kuwait's Bader Alawadhi gave the regional crowd a winner, beating Hubert Łopotko 9-6.

## The last-64 draw

The bracket pairs each unbeaten qualifier against a losers'-side survivor. Play opens on Tuesday in two sessions — 11:00 and 14:00 in Doha (08:00 and 11:00 UTC) — with every match raced to 11.

BilliardNews counts 13 Filipinos and 10 Poles in the 64 — more than a third of the field.

## What happens next

Single elimination runs through the week: the last 64 play Tuesday, and the champion is crowned Thursday, October 29 in a race to 13 worth $100,000 from the $450,000 fund. Every player in Tuesday's draw is already guaranteed $3,000.
